The Olifantshoek (Elephant’s Corner) valley which was originally settled in 1688 by French Huguenot refugees, many of whom were given land by the Dutch government. The valley was so named because of the herds of elephants found there.
The Elephant and Barrel Pub originates from the history of the area, signifying both the elephants and the history of wine.
We are the only English Pub in Franschhoek and are located in Huguenot Square off Huguenot Street. We stock in excess of 30 traditional beers.
Cocktails and Pub Menu
The pub has a fantastic cocktail menu, and Siya is our experienced cocktail barman. On arrival, ask him to make you the best cocktail in town, sip on your cocktails on the upstairs veranda and watch the sun go down whilst gazing at the Groot Drakenstein Mountains, in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
The pub food is good old traditional pub fare and is well priced for the whole family. A children’s menu is available to ensure the little one’s are looked after.
